It's been weeks since I've been able to update my Apps on either my iPod touch, or from iTunes. In iTunes previously, it would say that there were updates available, but then when I clicked on Update it would tell me that there were no updates available, now I'm getting a new error message that says "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." WHAT???? These are mostly free apps, and the others I paid for. I'm so tired of this. And on my iPod touch I get "Can not connect to the iTunes store," even though I can make purchases, download podcasts, etc. Any ideas. Thanks so much.
Me too. I haven't been able to update select apps in a few weeks and couldn't find anything on it since 2008 so I thought I was the only one and it was something that I was doing. It would say on the phone that I had 17 updates but then tell me that I didn't have any when I tried.
Now I am getting the same message about owning the correct version....
nice to have company....hopefully they will fix it and we can all meet again on the other side of this issue!
Despite that I think I figured it out, I had deleted one of the apps in its folder and not removed it from iTunes. I clicked each individually, found the app in question, and deleted it from iTunes.
Everything downloads fine now!
no answer from apple support for now. i tried to buy again app who dont want to update and ive been charged O-0 despite the fact normaly i can re download without being charged so WARNING!!! DONT Do THAT!! it cost me .99$ to learn hehe.
as for searching i searched and searched without any answer so if anyone know please tell us
we have 3 itunes store account here ( mine the Main one for my Iphone, girlfriend Iphone, and son Ipod Touch) and Only 1 itunes with our over 1200 app. At beginning we downloaded on separate account but to make things more easier we now only use My account and log other account very rare time.
Normaly, update shown is for the account connected but for unknow reason, updates from 3 account was shown So i think its a new thing of itunes. I logged in girfriend account and tried to download update ( i had clue because it was cooking mama and other stuff like that who didnt want update) and TA-DAM!! update downloaded just fine with gf account.
I bet you all have multiple account like me and tried to update with other account that the one used to buy the app for the first time. It just confusing because update are shown for all account available, but as always , you need to use the account who own the app.
Sometime thing are so easy... when we figure out and know how to...
Hope it will help you, at my side all is just fine and solved!
cheers
Well, I went to the Genius Bar today and they couldn't help me, so they gave me a number to call. We'll see how that goes. The guy did say that I wouldn't be charged again if I repurchased an app I had already purchased, but it sounds like that's not really true based on what I've read here.
in fact,
yes ive been charged twice but my mistake because i buyed 1st time on 1 account, and re buyed on other account so its just normal i have been charge 2 time. This is after i realise and try to update other app with other account that i find it was multiple account update who was shown as available update
You are not suppose to be charged again if you already paid for. I already tried without being charged twice. It will say the same thing as you will buy then click OK and it will say you already purchased this app and that you will be download it again for free. it will appear on purchase history with mention FREE.
Yes, I use multiple accounts because I buy apps from the USA, Singapore and Hong Kong iTunes stores. Apple is not really international or multi-national in its mindset, yet they are trying to make the world one in others! Sigh.
I had this tonight too.... and it happens DEFINITELY because you didn't download that app on that particular acct .... so swap to your other one and it will all go through smoothly as normal.
I don't know why suddenly apps are showing up on diff account pages... I do know that the number that usually appears beside the applications list sometimes is a combination of both accounts, but usually the free update page is separate... usually 🙂
But yes, the fix is.... if you get that message... you didn't download the app on that account, so swap to the one you did, and you will have no problems.....
I have the same problem. I only have one account, so the "switch-account-solution" doesn't work for me I guess.
Apple (as in "not the paying customers") need to fix this soon!
It sounds lots of fun to experiment with different ways around this problem, but I just have other things to do...
Waiting not so patiently...:-(
THANK YOU
I followed your method and fixed the problem. It appears that when downloading updates you must be logged in to the correct Apple store (country) - i.e. the one from which apps were initially downloaded from or you use the correct login (Apple ID) if you have multiple IDs.
I also only have one account and still can't do it.
If it was a free app then I clicked okay to "buy" it again and it loaded fine but I had to do it individually....and I am NOT buying things again....hopefully they will get on this..
