Can I Get Mail to Import Gmail Chat Logs?

Can I get MAIL to retrieve chat logs from GMAIL? If they are in my GMAIL inbox they are imported but most chats are not stored in the inbox; they are in the chat folder.

if you set up gmail as IMAP then this should be automatic. if gmail is set up as POP then it's impossible as POP can only download inbox contents.

That was helpful. Thank you. However, I set up my gmail as IMAP but I still don't have access to my chat folder. I want to store my chat logs and important emails on my computer. Any ideas? Maybe there's something I need to tweak with the IMAP setup?

go to webmail gmail interface and enable "advanced IMAP controls" lab. then go to the labels tab and set the "Chats" label to be made available for IMAP. then it should show up as a mailbox in the IMAP section of Mail.

Yes! Thank you. I'm sure this is the answer but for some reason, the checkbox for "show in IMAP" is disabled on my GMAIL interface. I signed out of GMAIL after enabling the advanced IMAP controls in the lab and logged back in. I tried quitting MAIL and opening it up again but I still don't see the Chat folder in MAIL. I should mention I am using MAIL 3.6 on OS X 10.5.8. Chats is set to "Show" and not "Hide" in GMAIL. I will try to reboot my computer but I doubt that will do it. Thanks for your help. Any idea why I can't enabled the "show in IMAP" checkbox?

I don't know. but this is the issue with gmail not Mail (or any other email client you may want to use). if it doesn't want to make the Chats mailbox available for IMAP then no email client you use will see it.
