I have just installed windows 7 x64bit on my pc. I have downloaded the itunes for windows 7 x64 and it seems to have installed correctly. I have reset my iphone (as my old one packed up with the home button, so Apple replaced it as it was still within the warrenty)and now when I connect the newly formated iphone to itunes, I get the following error,"this phone cannot be used as the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64 bit version of itunes"???? i am assuming that the itunes download 'iTunes64Setup.exe' is the correct installer package for the 64bit version of windows7?

does anyone have any ideas of this, I am really missing my iphone.

Its too long winded to type it out again, but search for "Windows 7" and you will see a lot of issues with the 64 bit version, and the simple solution is to go back to the 32bit version until the drivers are sorted. There also some USB problems caused by certain motherboards and a bios incompatibility.

I have now updated all the windows 7 x64 drivers, and re-installed itunes 9.0.3.15 x64. itunes does not recognise the iphone. I have noticed that the Apple mobiles device service did not install. this has happened several times now.

does anyone know where I can find the apple mobile device drivrs so that I can install that service on windows?

During the Apple Mobile Device Support part of the iTunes install, do you see a message about "rolling back installation", alias?

I see the "rolling back" message when installing, and I'm having the "install the 64-bit version" problem when I connect my iPod Touch. Also, the 32-bit iTunes won't install at all.

Okay ... with that one, try the 64-bit version of the Aurelius technique, Ninchilla:

[Windows 7 itunes 9 iphone/itouch “software is not installed” error (Apple Mobile Device service missing) 32bit/64bit|http://randomwindowstips.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/windows-7-itunes- 9-software-is-not-installed>

Well, I don't get the error any more, but now nothing happens when I connect the iPod by USB - it's not even charging.

Do you have a laptop, Nin?

If so, the following document might be of some assistance with that:

(That issue seems to match your recognition and charging symptoms.)

I have three different models of Sony Vaio PC, all new, all 64 bit, all with Windows 7. NONE work with my iPhone. WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO STOP HIDING FROM THIS AND FIX THE BUG?
