Pages crash when pasting

Question

Pages crash when pasting

I'm trying to port a .docx file to pages. Pages is unable to open the document.

When I copy and paste from docx, Pages will crash. I get an error and I reopen pages, but the same thing continues to happen.

Any ideas?

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MBP, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Is this the only problem?
Have you been able to open a .docx file before? Which update did you use when updating to 10.6.2? Hopefully you used the Combo update.
You could send me the document and I will try to open it. Click on my name and you'll see my mail address.
Sometimes the documents get corrupted, it doesn't have to be Pages not functioning.

Try opening the .docx file in TextEdit and resaving it as .doc or simply editing the .docx to .doc.

I can live without having to open the document directly into Pages.

The bigger issue is copying text from the doc file and pasting into pages. The program will beach ball, and then crash immediately after a paste command.

Try pasting in an intermediary program like TextEdit, both formatted and plain text.

Also try pasting into Pages using +Paste and Match Style+ and see if you can shake off the problem.

I'd also check what preferences there are in MsWord for the clipboard.

The issue is with the SFCompatibility Plugin.

is there a way to reinstall this?

Sure, delete the the iWork '09 folder in Macintosh HD > Library > Application support
Install iWork again. The installation will install the folder with its contents again.

Ah now you mention that!

Yes, a complete reinstall and update to the latest iWork, plus it may pay you to try and reinstall and update to OSX 10.6.2 using the downloaded Combo updater not the software updater version.

However at this point you may as well wait for OSX 10.6.3 which will be out any day soon. That probably will fix the bugs in 10.6.2's updater.
