Blurry Screenshots

When I take a screenshot using the "Capture Selection Area" function (Cmd Shift4) the images always come out slightly blurry. It is as if all the text has been blurred by 1 pixel.

If I capture the entire window (Cmd Shift4 then Space) or the entire screen (Cmd Shift3) it comes out fine.

Two questions:
1. Does anyone else experience this problem?
2. If so do you know of any workarounds? I tried changing the default image capture format, but it didn't solve the problem.

The example I posted is with PNG.
I tried JPG and TIFF and they were both just as bad.

I think it is more than just compression. It's as if the blurry one is actually getting stretched slightly. Notice that the scroll thumb is actually touching the edge of the graphic in the bottom shot, while at the top it has an extra pixel of space on the right.

Strange that you don't have the problem.
Perhaps it has something to do with my video card (Radeon X850 XT)?
Which card are you using?

Strange. That looks like one is lossy compressed and one isn't.

When I try and duplicate the problem my screenshots are both crystal clear.

The format of my screenshot is png. What are you using?

That didn't seem to do anything.

I should mention that I'm pasting them into Photoshop... I'm not using Preview at all. Although it wouldn't be the first time Apple has hidden a system-wide preference inside one of it's apps...

This is just the 9650 that comes with the dual 2.7.

I even did the same test on a dual 2.5 with the 9600 XT and it doesn't have your problem either.

I would love to know what is really going on with this. If you figure it out make sure you follow up.

Does this happen to you when doing screenshots?

I was having your same issue intermittently on my entire screen. I finally convinced Apple to send me a new video card and it hasn't happened since.

Be sure to send them a screenshot of the problem. No one would believe that it was it was a video card problem until they saw a picture of it. They kept insisting that my monitor had coincidentally gone bad the same day I hooked up my new G5.

Preview>Preferences>Default image size>Actual size.

Should fix it, got me too. 🙂

thanks for your input but it's not a hardware problem as when ı change the screen resolution (as I have a sony monitor connected) the screenshots come out ok when I change to 600x800....?

Have you tried other means of capturing the screen?
Look at Ambrosia Software for Snapz Pro X 2.0.2

This seems to have fixed itself at some point when I wasn't looking. Probably with the last update. Sorry I can't offer any specific solutions to anyone with the same problem
