Webcam recomendations for G5

Probably a used iSight camera off eBay would be your best option as they came with the proper mountings to clip it on top the of the iMac.

Actually I've found that just about any camcorder that has a FireWire output will work fine. Actually the output reads DV In/Out. I used them for iChat. I've got a JVC GR-DVM80, Sony DCR-TRV9 and a Sony DCR-HC40 that work fine. The best part about it is that the tape mechanisms on all are broken so they were free. This is the case for many of these early generation DV recorders. You might just ask your friends or neighbors.

Some webcams that have no mic or zoom lenses are very low priced. Here is one example:

Be sure to check its system requirements and the compatibility info for the application you plan to use with your new webcam.

For Skype use only, you can use one of the cameras that Skype recommends:

Will I also need to purchase a microphone. My Mac does not have iSight.

Unless your iMac's built-in mic does not work, you can use it. If your iMac's mic works, you would only need a different mic if you want one that can be moved independently from your Mac or external webcam.
