Finding my model number and the replacement battery

My MBP was one that had initial battery problems, so I got a replacement one. Now, I have another deficit battery (but Apple declined to replace it, which I can sort of understand).

I need a new battery, but am having a problem: I can't identify my model id! I know my serial number, but cannot find the MA **// or A *** number--I checked under my battery case and in the Apple>More Info menu and all it says is that it's a "MacBook Pro"! Any ideas?

Also, the replacement battery from Apple is definitely labeled as an A1175, so my other question is this: am I measuring my laptop incorrectly or are 15" and 17" batteries interchangeable?

Try this one http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/ and enter the last three digits of your Serial-Number.

Sorry I am not familiar with the MBP batteries, but maybe some other can chime in.

I don't see A1175 listed and you're not clear if your MBP is 15" or 17".

And if I were you, I'd call Apple's Customer Relations and report the replacement battery as defective. I know they don't want to, but they should replace and make right any non-user induced defective part under the AppleCare warranty.

Hi Eve,

The 15" and 17" batteries are different. The model number you have quoted (A1175) is for a pre-unibody 15" model battery. If this battery will fit in your computer then you have a 15" MBP.

All of the pre-unibody 15" MBPs take the same battery (though it sometimes has different numbers). These were the computers sold between 2006 and about the end of September 2008 (when the "late 2008" unibody model with a different battery replaced them).

The battery for the 17" model is larger, and has a higher capacity. It won't fit in the 15" model, and vice versa.
