Q: Apple Universal Dock Problem

I just bought a universal dock from ebay and the dock came without a remote, so I bought a new remote in the hope that it would work.

Unfortunatly the dock doesn't seem to have any recognition of the remote at all and it doesn't work.

I have an ipod touch 3rd gen.

Something makes me think that the dock was paired with it's old remote (origional) and then the remote was lost and now the dock can not work with any other remote.

Is there any way that I can unpair the dock without the remote it's paired to?

& I bought a mains to usb adapter but it turns out my ipod doesn't charge when the dock it plugged into the mains adapter, any reason why?
