Setting up bill due dates

I have a Palm too, but it doesn't do what you want. I carry a Palm because of Pocket Quicken. There is no comparable financial program for the iPhone . . . yet. Not even iBank.

Sounds like you need a secretary to keep you on your toes! Why do you need so many "reminders" for one single event? I'd say the problem is your ability to stay on task, not the iPhone. I mean, it's a great device, but it ain't your mother and it certainly can't correct our bad habits! <grin> Good luck.

I've been using a good calendar app for the past 10 years on a Palm. The iPhone calendar is hopelessly primitive compared to a good calendar. You cannot do what you want on the phone, and a 3rd party developer cannot either, because Apple doesn't allow apps to access the built in calendar. Which is why I still carry a Palm along with my iPhone.

Personally, I just use an Excel spreadsheet with due dates, payed dates, etc for each month. Then again, I'm at a computer more than on my iPhone.

Hi, Coop; I had 60+ apps on my Palm. All but one of them are now either available on the iPhone or have an equivalent, and most of them are better than the Palm versions. I was down to 2 in January, but then Michael Love release the Pleco English/Mandarin dictionary on the iPhone, which is a true masterpiece.

But the one remaining, DateBk6, is not available for the iPhone and likely will never be unless Apple gives up their misguided idea that the iPhone has a usable calendar. Handspring actually contracted with the developer of DateBk6 to write a calendar for their Palm device and built it into the OS, but Apple isn't that smart.

You can setup an appointment in the calendar app, you can make it recurring - or repeating as it is called in the app. You can set up an initial alert as well as a second alert if you wish.

I moved from a Treo and was worried about this but it works pretty well quite honestly. It syncs with Outlook nicely.

I have a bunch of reminders setup this way - and they are repeating.

But if you miss the 1st or 2nd alert you are lost. In DateBk6 I create payment reminders as "floating" events. If I don't check them off they will float forward day by day until checked off. So I only need 1 alert, and it reminds me every day until I finally pay it and check it off. It then records the date actually checked off. Which is why I still carry a Palm.

The Palm does exactly what I want, using DateBk6. I pay about 40 bills a month, each with a different due date; in addition, I have quarterly bills, annual bills, etc. If it were one bill a month I could remember. DateBk6 not only reminds me, after I pay each bill I check it off, so I have an easy way to check whether it was paid or not, and shifting to the DateBk6 List view I can easily see any I missed. And a Palm is a lot less expensive than a secretary 😉

My iPhone and iCal do exactly the same thing. Plus everything is in synch across the board, between my Desktop (iMac 24), Laptop (PowerBook G4) and iPhone. Plus I can access my iCal through MobileMe from any other computer at any other location. AND I can synch my iCal with my Quicken with the click of a button (on Quicken). I see no advantage with Palm for the purpose of reminders. And carrying around a second device is just too cumbersome, IMO. I do wish that Quicken would come out with a good App, but it doesn't look likely.

You cannot. You set up recurring dates in the Application to which the iPhone calendar is synced, and that transfers the appointments/reminders over.

Just set it up on your computer, then sync the iphone.
