Frozen IPod first generation screen

My first generation IPod Touch's screen is now unresponsive. I held down the top button to turn my IPod off, but now it is frozen that way. I cannot slide the little red arrow across the screen no matter how hard or lightly I press down on it. I charged it and waited all night and it still isn't working. I use my IPod daily. Please help!
