Converting doc files to Pages '09

Ctrl +click on the document. Choose Pages in the menu. Normally Pages will open the document.

If you want the doc and docx to always open in Pages select one of them > Get info by pressing Cmd + I > Click on button Open with > choose Pages > click on button Change All

Select one page number and delete it. You are talking about the page numbering you have inserted in your document and not the one from the word document?
