Replacing an iTouch on iTunes -- how to preserve apps and settings?

My iTouch 1st generation has died, so I'm replacing it with a 3G. My question is in regards to iTunes. I want to insure that all the apps I currently have in iTunes will transfer to the new iTouch. What's the best way to remove the dead one and replace it with the new one and keep all the apps intact?

You can sync as many ipods as you like to one library/computer.

Anything in itunes can be synced to any ipod you wish.

You should also get the option to restore from backup when you first sync. This should retain your settings.
