ATI extensions removal

We've got a 1.24ghz Emac here thats freezing up. I've tried all the standard things, new battery, changed ram, booted from external drive and so on. The only way it will run is by a SafeBoot. This is one of the Emacs that has had its main board replaced and I've peeked and the caps still look ok. A few years back we could get these "Bad Cap" computers to run by removing some of the ATI extensions. I just can't remember which they were. Does someone have that list? I'm just curious to see if that will get this thing to run because its acting like it did before (screen freezing with little artifacts on it)

It does sound a bit capacitor-problem-ish...

Basically ALL of the ATI files need to go. Create a new folder on the desktop, do a search for "ATI", and then anything that says its an ATI extention/etc - drag them to the folder.

IF it is caps... this is only a short-gap solution.

When did you get your eMac fixed? Was it early 2006? If so, it is POSSIBLE that they used one of the original (bad) boards to fix your computer. There is about a dozen caps on the eMac board that can be faulty, not just the 2 you see in the RAM hatch.

That said, I doubt Apple's going to help now...

Early Intel iMacs are reasonably cheap these days...
