Can control OS9 app from a 10.5 computer using Apple Remote Desktop?

Hi,

I searched the list and other places but can't seem to find the info I need. Can someone help? I need to control an application on a G3 running Mac OS9 from a G5 that is running Mac OS 10.5, Leopard.

I have a Drum Scanner and the software is longer supported and it will not run under Mac OSX. I run the software and scanner on an Apple G3 with no keyboard or monitor, do to space limitations. This all worked from the Apple G5 running Mac OS 10.4 using ARD v1.2.

How do I make this work under 10.5.? It appears that ARD v2 and v3 no longer work with OS9. The only control I need is running one legacy application.

Thank you very much for the assistance.

G5 2Ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

You would need to run VNC software on your OS9 system so that you could take control of it with ARD or another VNC-compatible application. You can still find a VNC app for Mac OS 9 here:

If you regularly have to control this OS9 system, though, and the G3 is near the G5, you might instead consider a KVM switch to switch your keyboard, mouse and monitor. While obviously more expensive, that may be more reliable and effective in the long run.

Regards.

Thank you very much for the response. Once I put an alias for the OS9vnc application in my OS9 startup folder, that did the trick.

It does work but I loose the keyboard short cuts unfortunately. I will need to get used to finding some of the scanner commands from the pull down menus.

I will look into a KVM switch, it does seem like a better approach at this point.

Cheers.
