How do I connect my line 6 pod xt to garage band?

I am unable to see an input selection other than the stock input selections and I am unable to record with garage band other than using the built in mic. My line 6 pod xt has a USB outlet and I have it connected but can not get to the next step. Please advise. Thanks.
