A1221 Apple bluetooth earpiece

I can't connect my earpiece to either my iPhone or MacBook Pro. Neither can "discover" the earpiece. I have tried turning the earpiece on and off (hearing the three note progression) - but nothing happens in terms of either iPhone or MacBook Pro discovering it.

Thoughts?

PS - Have the new mouse and the MacBook Pro has no problems in discovering it.
