Hi Everyone,

I plugged my Iphone in to Itunes and was prompted to do a software update. The update failed, and i was prompted to do a Restore.

The restore failed with error (6). The phone is completley dead and only shows Apple logo when plugged in attempting a restore. I have deleted the .ipsw file and downloaded again many times but still the same problem. Also have tried holding down Home and power buttons, it makes a noise fron itunes but nothing happens on the screen. Extremely frustrating! Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Thanks,

Stew

    hey there,

I am also having the same problem with my iphone and it is very frustrating because i cannot get it out of the recovery mode screen. Have you found a solution?

    Hiya

I had this problem with mine recently too. In the end I had to use my other computer, which has never had my phone plugged into, to do the restore and upload the new software, then plug it back into my original computer and do a restore to get all my apps etc back. Luckily it had backed up very recently so didn't loose anything!

However....I have had a problem with my phone since where the screen goes blank after you've made a call and stays blank. I press the screen and home button and still nothing. If the person ends the call too this also happens and the screen comes back within a minute. But I'm not sure if the two are related, but it started happening after the above happened!!! So if anyone has any thoughts...let me know!!

    Thanks
    Mands

While plugged in hold down the home button and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button and continue holding home for another 10 seconds. iTunes will detect in recovery mode. hold down option (or shift for windows) and click on restore. Select the 3.1.3 fw file and restore.

Hey Yilmaz, thanks for the suggestion, have tried that and it fails at the part where it says its updating Firmware. Monkeymands, Ive already tried it on other computers aswell and unfortunatley no success. Maybe i should try it on a computer that has never had Itunes on it? Although i dont think it would matter because i have formatted my laptop and it still won't work.
    It's a tough one!

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. Except my iphone will not turn on at all. Have tried all the previous suggestions from your post with no luck. Let me know if you work it out.

    Stew,
I'm glad someone else is having this problem. I went to do it yesterday (update to the newest software), and my ipod has just died on me. I've had a selection of errors, 2001, 1661, 6, and others.
I've followed the steps that the website recommends for this error, but alas to no avail.
Thinking of taking it into my phone provider, or perhaps phoning up apple.

Hi Mr Rob, it seems alot of people have had the same problem! Apple couldn't fix it over the phone so I am booked in to see them at the store. Only problem is the phone has previously been wet, and repaired, but the pink water markers are visible so I know they probably won't cover it under warranty, but I'll pay to have this problem fixed if they can somehow help!!! I would like to try loading in the old 3.1.2 software but you can't downgrade, so i'm stuck! I'm convinced it is a software issue and not hardware failure because the phone worked faultlessly up until i tried to update the software, so there must be someone out there who can fix it up! I hope!
