Hi Everyone,

I plugged my Iphone in to Itunes and was prompted to do a software update. The update failed, and i was prompted to do a Restore.

The restore failed with error (6). The phone is completley dead and only shows Apple logo when plugged in attempting a restore. I have deleted the .ipsw file and downloaded again many times but still the same problem. Also have tried holding down Home and power buttons, it makes a noise fron itunes but nothing happens on the screen. Extremely frustrating! Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Thanks,

Stew

    Hiya

I had this problem with mine recently too. In the end I had to use my other computer, which has never had my phone plugged into, to do the restore and upload the new software, then plug it back into my original computer and do a restore to get all my apps etc back. Luckily it had backed up very recently so didn't loose anything!

However....I have had a problem with my phone since where the screen goes blank after you've made a call and stays blank. I press the screen and home button and still nothing. If the person ends the call too this also happens and the screen comes back within a minute. But I'm not sure if the two are related, but it started happening after the above happened!!! So if anyone has any thoughts...let me know!!

    Thanks

While plugged in hold down the home button and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button and continue holding home for another 10 seconds. iTunes will detect in recovery mode. hold down option (or shift for windows) and click on restore. Select the 3.1.3 fw file and restore.

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. Except my iphone will not turn on at all. Have tried all the previous suggestions from your post with no luck. Let me know if you work it out.

    Stew,
I'm glad someone else is having this problem. I went to do it yesterday (update to the newest software), and my ipod has just died on me. I've had a selection of errors, 2001, 1661, 6, and others.
I've followed the steps that the website recommends for this error, but alas to no avail.
Thinking of taking it into my phone provider, or perhaps phoning up apple.
