'Inconsistent data' message when syncing Safari bookmarks

Safari 4.0.4

I keep getting 'inconsistent data' messages when I try to sync my bookmarks through Mobileme (is this a sync problem or a Safari one?)
Anyway, I have purged all the plists as suggested elsewhere on this Forum, copied here from another topic:

Go to ~/Library/Safari and move the following files to the Trash.

Bookmarks.plist

History.plist

LastSessions.plist

WebpageIcons.db

Relaunch Safari.

If you still can't save a new Bookmark, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari.

Still no luck, the same error message. I simply can't reset these bookmarks.

As per my own earlier question, I repeated the process of trashing my preferences a few more times. Weirdly enough, it finally worked, so I'm sort of answering my own query.
I will say that I tried (twice) with the MobileMe love chat system (wasn't sure if it was a MobileMe or Safari problem. All I can say is that I found that process to be nearly useless. First 'operative' went into troubleshooting and then simply disappeared forever. Odd. Second chap didn't really seem able to understand that some of us are still running 10.5.8 (one computer on 10.6.2, other 2 on 10.5.8). As we were batting this back and forth, it started to sync again. Result, but nothing to do with him.
