Card reader not recognized tonight - please help

I thought it mounted once before while using OS X , but I'm new to Tiger, so perhaps I didn't try this before.

What I've done in OS9 in the past: I take the 256 MB compact flash card out of my Olympus camera, I connect the card reader to my usb port on the left of my keyboard (the one opposite the mouse), insert the compact flash card, and a disk (which was the compact flash card) mounted on my desktop (when I used OS 9).

I did this now with Tiger; however, I do not see a mounted disk image that I can click on to copy my digital photo files (jpg) to the photo folder I have created on my Tiger desktop.

Question: Why isn't Tiger recognizing my card reader (with a CF card in it from my camera) and mounting it as a graphic or image on my Tiger desktop?

Addendum information: In the past, with OS 9, the LED (light) on the card reader would come on when I connected it; however, now even the light on the card reader doesn't light up (flicker or flash) like it did in the past with OS 9.

Addendum information #2: I connected the card reader to a USB hub that isn't on my keyboard and my Cube still doesn't recognize (mount it or light up) so that I can access my digital photograph files.

G4 cube, Mac OS X (10.4.3), 700 to 800 megs ram. 120 gig Seagate internal HD
