reducing size of iphoto files

I've got a 2.3 MB photo and want to get it down to 100K. I can't seem to figure out how to do this with iphoto, but I can't believe there's no way to do it. Should I be using another program?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

File -> Export. It's one of the options in the Export dialogue.

If you want to keep the pixel size of the photo the same the low quality export option will only get you down to about 300 KB. But if you reduce the pixel dimensions and the quality level at the same time you can reach the 100kb size.

For example I took a 3072 × 2304 pixel photo, 2.3MBs, and exported at 1800 x 1350 pixels at Quality level = low and got 127 KB. You'll have to experiment with size and quality level to get what suit your needs.

You are in the iPhoto 09 forums (iPhoto 8) and my reply was predicated on that. Evidently that option was added in a later version than yours.

There are some 3rd party image resizing applications that can do both pixel dimensions and jpg compression (quality level) resizing at the same time. Go to VersionTracker.com and do a search for image resize.
