The connection to the server “imap.aol.com” on port 143 timed out

I am having a bit of a problem with my aol account. I see a little error sign next to my AOL mail and it says "The connection to the server “imap.aol.com” on port 143 timed out". I am not sure why it is doing this. My iPod touch and other apple products do the same thing to my account, except my ipod touch just doesn't even let me send mail. My email address is @aim.com not @aol.com because it is based on my aim screename. But its worked everywhere else including aol.com and other email applications. How do I resolve this issue? Because my gmail account on mail seems to work perfectly.
