Exchange Email - Cannot Get Mail, connection to server failed

I have a new iPhone 3GS, i can setup my exchange account through the iphone and the account comes back as verified, however i cannot get any mail. All i get is Cannot Get Mail, The connection to the server failed. I have tested my account settings on a Windows Mobile 6 device and it connects fine. Any ideas as this is now driving me crazy!!!!!!!

I am also having the same problem. I can connect to the exchange server no problems. Contacts and calendars sync okay backwards and forwards. I cannot get mail. It keeps coming up with Cannot get mail - user name or password are incorrect. The username and password are not incorrect - they are the same ones I use to login in with web access. Anybody out there got any ideas. It's getting a bit frustrating having to go into Safari and webmail everytime I want to check for emails.

Tried both of those things. Still no joy. It's just very strange that I can sync calendars and contacts back and forwards, I can also see all of my mail boxes but if I try to access the mail in the mail folders, i get password is incorrect. (Well it's not - I can get a blackberry to sync everything with that password). I'm about ready to throw the phone out of the window.

I'm also having the same kind of issue.
My config and findings:
- The Exchange 2003 is running as part of SBS 2003.
- I am able to connect to ActiveSync using a Windows Mobile based phone
- When using the IPhone it just says Cannot get mail....
In IIS logfiles it shows the ActiveSync page as being accessed with code 200 so
that seems ok

My question now is is there a way to get more logging on the IPhone to see if I can trace anything else?

Same problems here, iOS 4.0.1, 3GS. Several iPhones in the company have no issue connecting and getting email from our Exchange server--different models and iOS versions. However even though I'm using the exact same Exchange account configuration (save for login/pass) mine immediately gets the "Cannot get mail/failed" message. It's like it's not even getting to the point of a timeout.

Deleted and set up the account on the phone - verifies, but no email
Tried the network reset trick - no success
Tried setting "Mail days to sync" to "No limit" - no success

This has been happening to me too ever since yesterday afternoon. I deleted the account and tried to recreate it and for a while it wouldnt work. Then, out of no where it worked...for a while. This morning the exact same thing happened...I deleted the account, but to my complete dismay and total frustration, it's not recognizing my email exchange server account...

For whatever reason, it's never getting to the enable ssl screen.

I'll take any suggestions.

Thanks

Symptoms like yours and the one you replied to are usually on the server side, especially if it worked before. Perhaps the administrator applied a Microsoft patch or changed a configuration setting.

What you can do on the phone: Go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset Network Settings (this will erase your WiFi authentication, but won't break anything else).

Then delete the Exchange account, Reboot the phone (you must do this) and add the Exchange account back.

To Reboot, hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears, then immediately release both buttons. Ignore "Slide to power off".

Hello all,

I'm experiencing the same problems as described in this thread. We have 3 iphones at my company (all 3GS). 2 have iOS 3.x and connect to our exchange server without issue. Mine, with iOS 4, only displays "Cannot Get Mail"

I've tried the steps outlined above, including removing & re-adding, performing a network reset, setting the days to fetch to no limit. But I'm still without my work mail, contacts, and calendar. 😟

Can anyone suggest another course of action or at least a way to access an error log for easier troubleshooting?

THANKS!

I am having a similar issue. Our exchange admin team decided to move some staff mailboxes from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010 mail server and I was one of them. After the move I couldn't access my mails on the iphone OS 4.1. I checked the account setting and server address making sure that it's correctly entered.
here's what I tried, and what happened

1) Bring up the iPhone settings
2) press Add Account
3) press Microsoft Exchange
4) enter email, domain, username, & password
5) press next
6) as expected returns the mail server address
7) press next
8) account is verified
9) press save
10) got to mail
11) press account name

Get:
Cannot Get Mail
The connection to the server failed.

If anyone has experienced this issue before please let me know how the issue was resolved.
