Airport and DECT Phone

I have a panasonic DECT cordless phone system and an airport extreme base station. Every time I turn on one of the cordless phones, my internet connection is immediately lost, and the light on the base station begins flashing yellow for about a minute or so, and then returns to green. When the phone is turned off, the same thing happens again. When a corded phone, not part of the cordless phone system, is picked up, this does not happen. I've tried changing channels of the base station and have moved the airport base station as far away from the cordless phone base as possible.

DECT phones can operate in the 1.88 - 2.025 GHz band ... which should not interfere with Wi-Fi equipment operating in the 2.4 GHz band. However, DECT uses dynamic channel allocation and is thereby able to reduce the levels of interference, by "aggressively" seeking different channels within this range to find one with the least interference. All DECT equipment scans the frequency allocation at least every 30 seconds as a background activity. This channel selection could encroach the lower channels of the Wi-Fi's 2.4 GHz radio ... and maybe why you are experiencing the lost connections.

If you operate your wireless on the 2.4 GHz radio, try using channel 11 ... or consider changing to the 5 GHz radio.
