The battery could be the problem!
Does this MBP work fine when plugged into AC?
What color is the light on the Magsafe power adapter?
Did you or the tech try resetting the SMC, you couyld try this again!
Download and run Coconut battery (it's free) and post back the information that coconut gives you.

In your case, your MBP is 4 to 5 years old so the battery may very well be the problem.
If I were you I'd look into getting replacement battery for starters. Then I'd keep close eye on the battery to make sure that it is charging correctly.
Again download and run coconut battery, it will help you determine the condition of your battery.

Then you may be better off scheduling an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar. they can take a look at it for you and try a different Magsafe adapter. If they determine that the Mac has a problem that needs to be repaired they'll simply give you a quote. The appointment for them to look at it is free.
We took it to where we bought it. They had it for over 2 weeks. Said logic board was bad and it would be $1100 to fix. I picked up the computer drove to the apple store. They ended fixing it for free. I think the other place was trying to get a free computer because they wanted to keep it and "recycle"it. Told us it wasn't covered by Apple to be fixed, but next time I will straight to the Apple store. thanks for all your help!
