Unable to transfer files with Jabber

After upgrading to SL, I can't seem to transfer files in iChat with my Jabber account. I still can with my AIM account, however.

The error message is: "iChat can't attach the file: This chat does not accept file transfers". I also cannot receive files from others through Jabber.

Elsewhere someone suggested switching the port from 5223 to 443, which in my case didn't make a difference. Are there any further settings that could help this?

Use SSL: checked
Automatically find server and port: not checked
Warn before sending password insecurely: checked
Use Kerberos v5 for authentication: not checked

Location: iChat (previously my computer name, which did not work either).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I would double check the Mac Firewall (System Preferences >Security > Firewall) and check 1) it is On 2) that in the advanced Button allow Signed apps is chosen and iChat is in the List.

It may pay to turn the Firewall On and Off to rewrite the .plist for this in case it needs to be refreshed.

I know that the GoogleTalk server will allow a Login on port 443 with the same setting you list (Mine are currently using those with the server as talk.google.com

If you set Port Forwarding in your Routing device I would double check that any IP that is pointing to is the IP shown for your Computer in System Preferences > Network > Advance Button > TCP/IP tab (your computer may have a new IP under Using DHCP" compared to the setting you had before).

Thanks for your advice, Ralph.

I checked under Sys Preferences > Security > Firewall. If was set to off. But I did try switching it on and off again. The problem still remained.

The wireless router is a first-generation Apple base station (gray). Although 10.6's AirPort Utility doesn't work with it, I use a Java-based configurator that I downloaded, which seems to work very well. Range of DHCP addresses is 10.0.1.2-10.0.1.5. My computer has 10.0.1.5.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing here, since other people get this to work on SL. Further suggestions are welcome. I will try them all! I'm far from a pro at network configuration, so maybe the problem lies there.

Hi,

The older style firmware in the Airport Base Stations used to have page that set up the DHCP range and whether it Shared the Public IP.
Part of this used to be a check box for what is in fact Port Mapping Protocol.

This needs to be On.

The presumption is that an Airport Base Station is going to be connected to a modem that does not route (Cable ones don't on the whole) and therefore will share the IP coming from the ISP.

iChat can have problems if the modems routes as well (Most DSL modems route)
