Can I use Adobe CS1 on Snow Leopard?

Does anyone have an authoritative answer ? I have the original CS software and need a new Mac. I've heard conflicting reports about 10.6 running the old CS. Should I look for a computer with 10.5?

Hi,

I just both a iMac late 2009 and runs Leopard and S-Leopard.

Also I installed CS4 ... I also have CS2 an CS3 but decided to install CS4 anyway.

Most of the older Applications I already have are running great.

BUT, I don't know if CS1 is running on a late 2009 or any other earlier Mac's.

I have a Imac G4 and never tried it.

You have to investigate more before you trying to install CS1, maybe on the Adobe forum you will find the answer, or just Google for it.

I suspect what ya get depends partly on what other "things" you have installed, perhaps the purity of one's system has an effect. I had a fresh and pretty much unmodified version of Leopard (no haxies, no batch of fonts other than the system ones, no programs to speak of except Apple's, and so on) that I updated to Snow Leopard.

Also, the reason I haven't updated the CS1 is that I discovered I could do pretty much everything I wanted to do using Photoshop Elements, which can be purchased for 100 bucks or less (depending on where you buy it), and I had gotten sick of Adobe's exorbitant upgrade prices. So I'm now using Elements 99% of the time, I only launch CS1 on very rare occasions to do a couple of things that can't be done using Elements (generally it is creating custom effects and saving them). Depending on exactly what you do, you may not need CS at all. Check out the features for the latest version of Elements for the Mac:

That may be all you need.

Hi Francine

This was my experience: absolutely clean 10.6 from a known good genuine Installer Disk. Nothing 3rd-Party installed. Tried it first without updating and then with. Same result. Reinstalled 10.4, ran all the updates, again nothing else installed, installed CS1, worked. Did the same with 10.5, again worked. Back to 10.6, installed CS2 and it worked.

Additionally I ran the same tests using appropriate nbis created and served from OSX Server (NetBoot).

Elements is OK and it's more than adequate for what I want, mostly.

just found this post.
i can also concur as long as i install rosetta during a blank/clean install straight from the install DVD or SnowLeopard DVD CS2 installs fine.

just after the install in System Preferences > Displays > Color tab i have a TON of new Color profiles im not sure why as they didnt show up under Leopard might just be the ways SL & Adobe files are read?

heres a image of it:
