Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Not Functioning with Snow Leopard

I add my complaint to all the others.

The Gutenprint driver provided by Snow Leopard does not work properly, and it removed my Epson Printer Utility. I can neither print nor maintain the printer. Several long calls with Apple Support have basically been unable to fix this.

Is a new printer my only alternative?

All of my Epson stuff went funky during the switch to SL.

The best thing I found to do was to use the Epson Uninstaller to remove all Epson software from my system. After rebooting, I plugged everything in and reinstalled the Epson hardware one item at a time and let the OSX system updater find the drivers for me.

No guarantees but maybe doing it this way will help in your situation.

There is an Epson driver available from Software Update. Here is how you can uninstall the Gutenprint driver and then get the Epson driver from Apple Software Update:

First, power off your printer, then download the Gutenprint uninstaller from http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

Once you have uninstalled the Gutenprint driver, do the following:
1. Reboot the computer
2. Power on the printer
4. Your system will check for updates. Follow the directions to install the updates.
Hope this helps.
Syd.
