Question

Installing apps from dmg file package content windows doesn't gain focus

When I download a dmg file and double click to mount, after it mounts, the window containing the package contents never gains focus and stays hidden behind the rest of the windows that are open and I have to use Expose to find it. Is this an error or setting I've missed? On my friend's iMac it works fine but not on my MacBook Pro and we both have Snow Leopard.

Move the com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent.plist file out of /username/Library/Preferences/ onto the Desktop and try again. If that works, trash the moved file. Otherwise, open /System/Library/CoreServices/, drag a .dmg file onto the DiskImageMounter.app, and see if it works properly. If not, create a new admin user account, log into it, and try again. Report back.

Ok the first option didn't have any effect. When I opened the dmg from Chrome it loaded the window in the background.

Dragging the dmg onto the DiskMounter app worked. The window opened allowing me to drag the App to the Applications folder and was in focus.

I have a similar issue when I open an archive(zip) file from chrome/safari/firefox it shows the progress of the unarchiving ** then the finder window that would normally come to focus displaying the unarchived folder is hidden behind my other open windows.

What about in a new admin user account? I've noticed that some dmg files when mounted don't bring the window to the front and in focus. That might be something the creator needs to do when preparing the dmg file.

I think you're correct in your assumption the issue lies within the dmg creation. It had the same affect when I created a new admin users and tried performing the same tasks. I was just curious as since I know something should be popping up but for newer users I find they get easily confused with they download and run the file and then they think nothing has happened. Anyways thank you for the help.
