Unable to download Purchased songs.

Hey,

I recently had to reformat my PC, and therefore lost a lot of my music.

i Purchased and downloaded a song today so i can definately download fine from the iTunes store, but i cannot redownload any of the previously purchased music! which i had managed to do other times my PC decided to throw a tantrum and force me to reformat.

i beleive you can only do this about 5 times correct? well i know for definate i havent used it up yet, especially for some of the more recent songs i downloaded.

i have all the songs still attatched to my Purchase History on the iTunes store, but itunes itself will not let me download any of them! it just says "all the available songs for download on this account are downloaded" or words to that effect...

any ideas guys?

*i cannot redownload any of the previously purchased music!*

If you didn't make a back-up of your music/movie purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to purchase them over again:
"Products may only be downloaded once; after being downloaded, they cannot be replaced if lost for any reason. Once a Product is purchased or rented (as applicable) and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage" iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once

If you have an iPod that still has any of your purchases on it you'll find details in this article on how to transfer them to the computer: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store

Failing this, you could try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link it'll take you to the support/contact page: Customer Service - iTunes Store Support

*i beleive you can only do this about 5 times correct?*

Incorrect, you can authorise up to 5 computers to play your purchases on, you don't get 5 downloads: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

no offence, but your talking rubbish...

the other two times my hard drive has failed and i've had to format i just logged into the itunes store and it AUTOMATICALLY redownloaded my purchases.

also, i just plugged in my ipod to transferr them accross as you suggested, correct?

it said "unable to transfer these songs as they are not purchased to your account"

i only have one account and they are all on the purchase history!

PS. ok i was wrong on the authorisation, but it should not be up to 5 by now i've only had 3 reformats + this recent one! making 4!

i clicked deauthorise and then reauthorised - no success

ScotteH--

Got some bad news.

Apps can be re-downloaded.

Music needs to be backed up. Once bought, they're yours. It's like buying a CD. If it gets lost or scratched, you have to buy a new one.

iPods do not download music on to your computer, unless you bought it from the iPod proper. (i.e., you can't rip from your iPod to your computer with a third party program.)

I suspect your library was rebuilt during your formatting.

If you do not have backups for your music, you are out of luck.

Sorry--

Doc

ah well... i dont see why it wont download it this time around, it DEFINATELY did it the last few times as i've never backed it up. and yet theres only the most recent song missing.

last few times it was just log onto itunes store and it redownloads, or plug in the ipod and it finds it, and re downloads...

damnit!
