RAW-TIFF and Photobooks

I am using a 10.5.8, on an 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo and iPhoto 08, (version 7.1.5) and I have a mix of RAW and jpgs in a Photobook I created, but haven't yet ordered. I have in my preferences under Advanced --->RAW Save Edits as 16 bit TIFFs. All of the files have had some edits to them, so the question is.

Can I order the book and get closely what I see on my monitor?

And a second question....If I just used RAW files and made no edits to the images can I make a book and order it? Or is some conversion needed.

Thanks in advance and hope I can order this as is but hesitant to do so until a brain greater then mine fills me in. I would hate to order it and fine the color totally out of wack or that its a blank box because it was a RAW file.

Thanks again

Yes -- if your monitor is correctly calibrated AND your photos have the sRGB color profile

You can order

And always preview prior to ordering using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference

No you cannot print a Raw. A Raw is not a photo file it's just the sensor dump from your camera. It has to be processed before any use can be made of it. When you think that you are using a Raw in a book you're actually using the Jpeg preview that iPhoto creates automatically when you import a photo.

Terence,
They are originally RAW files, but I have under Preferences ---> Advanced--->>RAW Photos-->> Save edits as 16-bit TIFF files.........they have all been edited. Since they have been edited aren't they now TIFF files and therefore able to be sent and printed properly?

They have been edited, so I presume they are TIFF files but when I look at them within the context of the book they still are tagged as RAW files. I understand what the RAW files are that is why I am asking, as what point do they cease being RAW and able to be used for a book.

The way I read it, since they have been edited, they are TIFFs and can be sent, but I don't want to make a costly mistake.

Will the Preview method send in the other response tell me 100% that it will be printable or not?

Thanks

Larry,
The other post states I can't print the RAW files, but the Preview method you mentioned shows the images, so is it a given if they come up in Preview they will print in the book?

Is the other response thinking that they aren't saved as TIFF files since they have been edited?

Sorry to be so picky but I can't order some books and have them come back without images.

Thanks to both of you.

What TD is saying that it is not possible to print RAW (which is correct) but when you load a RAW photos iPhoto makes a JPEG of it - that is what you see in the book and the preview

So while you can not actually print the RAW file you can order and print the book because iPhoto handles the required conversion

Your book will be fine and will march your preview -- and Apple guarantees your satisfaction with the book - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/returns/

Note that color matching is best if your photos have an sRGB color profile.
