Aperture 3: GPS data gets lost after 'Update from Master'

My library contains photos in JPEG format that I geotag in Places, then I save the metadata with 'Write IPTC Metadata to Master'. The problem I have is, that the GPS data gets lost after I do an 'Update from Master', even if I saved the metadata before. I'm having this problem with referenced and managed photos and all my JPEGs from several different cameras. The only way to permanently store the GPS info into my photos seems to be to export the geotagged photos as versions.
Does anybody has the same problem or knows how to solve this?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

I believe it's because Aperture uses an earlier version of the IPTC standard that doesn't include the GPS data.

I'm annoyed about it too - and that when you manually assign locations in iPhoto it doesn't get written into the EXIF data of the file.

I use an App on the iphone to collect GPX location data and it will then add that to all my RAW pics. Unfortunately, because it adds to the IPTC, apperture doesn't notice it and ignores any GPS stuff.

Rubbish!

For all their banging on about how well Aperture uses places, I think it's years behind.

Use Houdah geo ( http://www.houdah.com) to write location data back to the EXIF. It's interface is very similar to Places (Google maps and pins) and you can interface with the Aperture library. It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it done now rather than wait for an Aperture 3 fix, then...

No wonder I'm continually getting lost GPS info on photos I've used AP3 to Places tag - sheesh.

I tend to wonder whether there's similar weirdness that are wiping out Faces database data as well?

Apart from having to buy HoudahGeo to simply update Master images with Places GPS data, is there any other way to write this GPS EXIF data out to the Master? Seems like this would have been a commonsense thing for AP3 to be doing - apart from stupidly wiping out the Places database info when an Update From Master command is issued.

Any thoughts?

As an initial shortgap until Apple makes AP3 a little more user friendly with GPS, I just found Mapeture - free version - Edit plugin at http://www.ubermind.com/products/maperture.php

At least this will take the Places GPS info and write it back to the Master file.

Though, I have had to double click the photo and 'Drop Pin' at the same location to let it know the GPS info is changed (before it will write the EXIF info out).

As noted by Rastarr, you can download the Mapature Pro plug-in (now a free product: http://www.ubermind.com/products/maperturepro.php ). If you already have GPS data in the file (say from locating it in Places), have Mapature Pro save the altitude for the selected photos; there is no need to drop the pin back to the same spot if you do this.

Why Places doesn't just write the GPS data itself is beyond me.
