iPhone 3G stuck at restore error 2 in iTunes

Hi,

I used to have a perfectly working iPhone until i synced and updated it to 3.1.3.

I received unknown error (2) and now I'm stuck in restore mode and there seems to be no way out. My phone is out of warranty so it's cheaper to buy a new one then to repair it. Anyone have any suggestions? Apple does not seem to care.

Hi,

This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 provides general tips that will resolve most update and restore issues.

Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the computer, using the cable that came with it.

Do you have a Mac or PC? What security software is running on the computer? If you haven't already, try updating, reconfiguring, or uninstalling the security software.

Thanks for your reply!

I've seen that page just about a hundred times 🙂 but nothing seems to cover error (2), what does it mean in a more detailed description??

This is what I've tried:

* Restore from different Macs and PCs
* Reinstall iTunes and update to the latest
* Different USB cables and ports
* Putting the phone in DFU mode and then update

There are no anti virus or security software installed that has caused a problem earlier. I also have tried on a number of Macs and PCs so I think we could rule that one out.

I very much doubt that this is a hardware problem with the phone since it was caused by the update itself.

It sounds like your iPhone will need service. That general update or restore alert should have been resolved by following the steps in the article.

The last part of the article provides service options.
f you have performed all of the steps in this article and you are still experiencing a restore issue, contact Apple or your wireless carrier, whichever provides phone support for your iPhone. To find Apple's contact information in your country, refer to Contacting Apple for Support and Service. If you use an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, you can find your wireless carrier at Locating iPhone wireless carriers. Wherever you live in the world, you can find your iPhone service options at the Online Service Assistant. You may have questions about servicing your iPhone, and you can find answers to frequent questions in this FAQ.

If there is an Apple Retail Store nearby, find the closest store and then make a reservation through the online Apple Store Concierge. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Hi all,

I have experienced the same thing using Windows Vista home premium, XP Pro and XP Home Ed.

The only thing which seems to have corrected the issue is reformat and re-install OS. I haven't experienced the issue since I did this with all three PCs.

Maybe keep this one in the 'last resort' pile!
