Slideshow speed of slides way too fast

I am trying out the slideshow feature of Aperture 3, but no matter what I try, my slides are flying by at an enormuous speed.

The default setting is at 4,49 sec per slide, but my slides are displaying less then 2 secs.

The global settings and settings per slide are not respected.
If I set it at 10 sec per slide, I'm getting somewhere around 3,5 sec per slide. No matter which theme I use.

I have been trying this on 3 different macs now, and all act the same, so it must be something I'm doing wrong or perhaps a bug ?

My system and software is completely up to date.

Does anybody experience the same behaviour ? Ifso, did you find a workaround ?

I just finished a slideshow in A3 without a problem. The export to AppleTV is pretty slow (probably 45 minutes for a 9 min slideshow) but I didn't encounter any timing problems and thought the whole experience was pretty quick and easy. I never used it in A2, but did in iPhoto once upon a time. I've just started using it because I broke down and bought AppleTV and want to exercise some control over how the photos are viewed with it.
I know this doesn't help solve the problem, but if it's a bug it isn't universal.

Thanks macfan and Steve for the replies.

It does prove it is something with my setup and/or images.
I'll investigate further what may be causing this.

The reason I wanted to use the slideshow feature is for a corporate presentation for my client.
I normally do this stuff in Final Cut Pro, but Aperture seemed potent enough to handle professional slideshows so I gave it a try.

Allen,

I cannot see anything you mention.

When I choose New > Slideshow I get the drop down tab you mention with themes, not presets, and no where can I see an edit option.

When I have my slides, I have a side panel to the right with "default settings" and "selected slides".

Also, in the Slideshow presets under the aperture menu (is this the place you are talking about), I have standard settings which are basically the same as the "default settings" inside the slideshow.

As I said earlier, none of the timings that are set are being respected.

Obviously you are seeing something that I'm not seeing, could you please explain where you have presets and this edit option ?

Hello Again,
Ok, first, some slideshows have long transitions between each image.
2. The shortest time is 5 seconds the longest 10. Default is 5. You could try changing to a different preset.
3. Now go to edit, at the bottom of the pesets list. Click.
4. On top right is box saying: Slide Duration 5.00 Seconds Click on the right to take it up to 10.
5. On the same row to the left is a box titled Timing. Set this to: Show Slides for Fixed Time.
Done i hope, if not i don't know what the problem is. Allan

Hi Allen,

Thanks for your help, but still I cannot find anything you are talking about.
The presets are under the aperture menu, they have no edit button I can click
I do have Theme's I can apply to slideshows, but no presets... again no edit button

I don't have any theme that sais Slide Duration, but "play each slide for a minimum of ... seconds" is this what you mean ?
I also don't have any box titled "Timing", only "default settings" and "selected slides" like I said in previous posts
I don't have anything that sais Show slides for Fixed time, but what I said above 'play each slide..." is this what you mean.

Are you talking about the slideshow feature in Aperture ? I don't have any button or setting that is labeled as you describe...

Like many menus in Aperture, if you click on Play Slideshow, and the dialogue to start comes up with the current transition selection there are arrows beside it -- click on those arrows and at the bottom of the resulting list is Edit. Click on Edit and you will get a new window in which to select many things including duration and duration of the transition.

ok, this is a different interface, but this edit choice takes me to the global presets under the aperture menu... and I'm back to square one (see above)

the rest is explained in my very first post above.

Still, my slides are flying by...

never mind, this is too much trouble, I explained in detail what I'm trying to do in my first post and noone actually has tried creating a slideshow under the "new" button in the toolbar ???

If I change to 10 seconds, that change is respected when I click OK and then Start. If I wanted that to become the preset speed, however, I would need to click on Reset Preset beneath the Sidebar or create a new preset.

Ernie

Edit -- actually the change is preserved through quit and relaunch of Aperture. I don't see what's hard about this?
