If you have and know how to use the original software the computer
was shipped with, to secure erase the iBook's internal hard disk drive,
then you could wipe the drive completely that way (one-pass will over-
write the drive contents) and then reformat to HFS+ and then install
the OS X software the computer came with. Then, after installing the
software & before the computer runs the setup personalization screen,
you can Quit the Installer. This will leave the computer so a new owner
would have to personalize the machine and set up the first user account.
But, as Duane suggests, it is better to have a spare decent computer than
to be stuck with only one or two. Especially if one you thought to rely on is
a Windows-only computer. In fact, as a new choice, an Apple Store 'special
deals' refurbished (online) may be a good option; these both can run Windoze.
They would ship with a superior Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, however. Or,
a new model from the 'education store' would qualify for a student discount.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
