I'm wanting to print to an HP LaserJet 1200 printer, connected by an IOGear USB Print Server to an Ethernet hub, which is connected to my MacBook. I understand that AppleTalk is no longer an option in Mac OS X 10.6, but is there any other way to print to this printer with it's current configuration?
i have a hp color laser jet 4600n i had to connect via ethernet to print via the broadband hub just plug the ethernet cable in the back of hub go settings load via network printer using HP JET DIRECT Socket then install using printer ip address and latest drivers and all works a treat.
I'm not using my broadband hub - that is in another room altogether. I have a dedicated ethernet hub, plus my USB print server is from IOGear, not an HP Jet Direct. If I could figure out the IP, I might be able to configure it with IPP.
I'm gonna tell you what I did when I had a problem with a print server not long ago. First step: cross your fingers! Then...
System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Press the '+' button.
- Click on 'Default' at the top left corner. It should be listed there your print server's port name as a printer name and under the Kind field it should be written Bonjour.
- Select your print server and the printer driver (be shure the picture matches your printer exactly). Click 'Add'.
- Print a test page.
Of course your print server should be configured to allow your computer to print. In other words, your MAC address has to be allowed.
