Thanks

Nope. Some may suggest using a "hot folder action" (automator) or Canon's DPP/Utility.
I can assure you both are lousy.
The more reliable of the two is Canon's software but it's slow, although not as slow as using the automator "Hot Folder".

I can't recommend either of the above.

I am waiting to see if anyone has a better solution.

In a way this is kinda funny. ****** program won't connect to my camera, but every time I try to do an import my scanner gets top preference. It doesn't tether (import files) from there either.

The 1Ds Mark II should work fine for tethering. You need to use the FireWire connection.

Canon changed their tethering protocol after the 1D/1Ds Mark II and newer cameras (1* Mark III and 5D Mark II) do not support the standard tethering protocol that Aperture uses.

Here is an Apple Kbase on tethered shooting which explicitly notes cameras that support tethering.

The support page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4176 says tethering the Canon 1D MKII and 1D MKIIN are both supported using Firewire under Aperture 3.0, but I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to get them to work.

The release notes for 10.6.4 stated there were a couple of fixes for Aperture 3 with one of them being:

"adds tethered shooting support for additional digital camera models"

After installing 10.6.4, I tried to tether but again, no luck.

Disappointing, considering that these cameras worked great using Aperture 2.

Why exactly to you "need" to use Phase One Capture to capture stills with any DSLR? I've been capturing stills from my DSLRs directly to my MacBook without Phase One for years. Most cameras come with their own software which will do the job, like Canon's EOS Utility.

Also, Aperture has allowed still capture with many popular cameras since version 2, and now with the 10.6.4 update and Aperture 3, many more cameras are supported, like the 5D Mark II.

Lightroom 3 as well supports direct capture of stills from many DSLRs. Again, not sure why you maintain Phase One is required to capture stills from DSLRs. It may be a great tool for such work, but it's far from the only option.
