Unable to group objects - it's greyed out all the time

I have had a look at the screen shot and I have tried to reproduce the problem. So far it is working fine on my machine.
When I get weird behaviour in Pages (just happened twice) I delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist from the User > Library > Preferences > log out and in again

Try that. If it doesn't help you may send be a copy of you document and I'll have a look at it. If it is corrupt, which happens, it wont work on my machine either. Click on my user name and you'll find my mail address.

Here it behaves flawlessly.

May you attach your Pages document to a mail and send them to my mailbox ?
Click my blue name to get my address.
I hope that with the doc it will be easier to identify the culprit.

Sorry, Aaron, I must have been seeing fruhulda's equipment profile and thinking it was yours.

Well, there have been an incredible number of manifestations of problems with iWork and the 10.6.2 incremental update. I wonder if there are any other issues that you may not have mentioned because they don't seem related to this one.

As Yvan says, what you want to do is something that works well on a properly functioning system. All manner of things have gone wrong for those who have installed 10.6.2.

I haven't installed 10.6.2, so I don't have first hand experience with this, but posts indicate that you must have a properly updated iWork first, and then do the Combo Update. After that you hold crossed fingers behind your back, or something like that.

I confirm: I played the fool when I installed 10.6 : no backup, on permissions repaired before, no permissions repaired after.
The only problem which I got was the one linked to the wrngly built font named : Hoefler Text.

I tried to group the object with my 10.6.2 system and it behaves flawlessly.

As I have no reason to think that the OP is a liar, I repeat my proposal: he may send a copy of the offending document to my mailbox.
I just add that if the beast is too big for an attachment, he may use a free service like YouSendIt.

It's easy to replace personal contents by fake meaningless ones.
So I would be able to try to help.
At this time, I just know that I never got the described behaviour.

Are you using a word processing document with the graphics inline? Then you can't group them. They have to be floating graphics/objects to be groupable.

You haven't locked them?

Select all your objects and then take a Screen Shot for us and post it here. I'm sure we can figure out what is happening.

I have installed 10.6.2 but I haven't had any problems so far as I can recall!
