Games? No Games? 5G iPod Nano

Hi,

this has been asked before but the answers were not clear to me. Are there any games to download anywhere for the 5th Generation iPod Nano? The apps store on iTunes says clearly that only up to 4th Gen is compatable. Is this still true? If so, will there ever be any? Bit dissappointed if only ever have the ones that came with it.

Thanks,

Theo

I don't have a nano or games so I cannot say they will "definitely" work.
Just that as I stated, the US store shows all the iPod click wheel games as being compatible with 3rd, 4th and 5th gen nanos.
I doubt that they would work in the US but not work anywhere else so it's likely the iTunes Store - UK games page has not been updated.

I will forward this info to someone who can likely get that page fixed.

Actually, only the page where all of the games are listed says that they are compatible with 5th gen nano. If you look at any individual game, it also lists which iPods they work with, and there are NO games that indicate that they are compatible with 5th gen nano (they are compatible with some other 5th gen iPod, which is not the same as nano). This is in the US; I suspect that the person asking this question is seeing the same thing in the UK. If you can get this fixed in the US, too, so that the individual games that are compatible with 5th gen say that they are, that would be great, since apparently some are and some aren't.

Otherwise, we do have some limited anecdotal evidence from previous threads, and also from some of the comments in the iTunes store. The .99 games (Reversi and Chinese Checkers) reportedly do not work with 5th gen nano. There was a thread within the past week that you can look for where someone did try three games which did work. The only one I remember off the top of my head is Zuma. I believe I have also seen messages in the past indicating that Monopoly and Sonic also work.

[edit] The thread I was talking about was last written to on 3/14, and is called 'Definitive answer please'. The other two games he tried were Uno and Sudoku, and he wrote what he thought of all three. Zuma sounded like the best bet, although the other two did work also.

Likely those pages have simply not been updated.
There's no reason they should not be compatible but likely no one at Apple has even bothered to see if the games are actually compatible, therefore have not updated the game pages.

Hmm. Thanks for the info so far. Can't see an answer from apple. Is this a contentious issue? I'll try some free games first.

The only free games for the nano are the three games that came loaded on it. There are no free games in the iTunes store, other than for the iPod touch and iPhone. The games that work on nano are all listed under the 'iPod Click Wheel Games', which you get to from the dropdown for the App Store.

What would be nice, is if Apple released a SDK (Software Development Kit) that allowed people to program / develop games and other useful applets compatible with the click-wheel interface... Some developers would make stuff available for free or for a nominal charge. Seems unfair that all the development is being done for the iTouch and iPhone. Perhaps they want to clearly differentiate the products and capability - but it seems artificially restricted.
