Sending a text message from a Macbook

Hi there; I am trying to sms or send a text message from my Macbook to a cell phone. Does anyone know if this can be done or can recommend a programme that can do it on a macbook please?

There are a number of web sites that you can use to send text messages to a cell phone. Although I haven't used them, here are some choices:
