Another Numbering Issue

Hi

I know a number of forum subscribers have asked similar questions to this already, but please don't think I am being lazy. I just plain don't understand the answers and I really want to. So this is my problem. My employer dictates that documents must be laid out in a particular manner which is essentially a customised tiered list. I need a 1cm tab space after the number and the next line needs not to be indented. So it should look like this.

1.(1cm Tab)Text Text Text Text
Text Text Text Text Text Text.

(1cm)a.(1cm Tab) Text Text Text
Text Text Text Text Text Text

(2cm indent) (1)(1cm Tab) Text Text Text
Text Text Text Text Text

I know there are a lot of brackets in there, but this is really easy to do in word, but I love the creativity of Pages. Essentially I want my first level of numbering at 0cm indent, a 1cm tab, text and subsequent lines on that para also at 0cm indent. The sub para needs to have the number at 1cm indent, a 1cm tab and all text on the next lines under the number, i.e. at 1cm indent. And so on.

Could someone please, please just give me really basic instructions how to do this. I have experimented, imported word documents and still no luck. I'm losing patience.

Thanks in advance

Rob

As far as I know, you can't use the numbers list and have the second line of text indent. A work around is to just use tabs and set up your own list.

First make sure you have centimeters as the ruler measurement

Then set up a tab stop at 1cm, 2cm and 3cm

Finally start typing using the appropriate tabs to place everything in the correct spot

Rob,

Does your boss have Pages or are you going to export to Word? If the answer to the first is “no,” then he won’t be able to open the document. If you’re exporting to Word, run a test of any solution you may get here to see if it imports correctly. Some things do, some things don’t.

Good luck,

Walt
