CANNOT TURN OFF IPHONE

Question

CANNOT TURN OFF IPHONE

When I try to turn off my iPhone nothing happens. I hold the power button down, but the turn off slider doesn't appear anymore. How do I solve this? Is there any key combination to force it to turn off?

iPhone 2GS, iPhone OS 2.x

Sometime ago I succeed to turn off my iPhone after 4 or 5 attempts. But now it doesn't turn off anymore.

Hi,

Press & hold the Standby button & the Home button at the same time for a few seconds. This will force the phone to shut down.

I suspect you (and the OP) have a faulty sleep/wake button.

Do you have a protective film on the face of the phone? If so, take it off. I was having the same problems. My wife took off the clear protective plastic on the glass because she thought it was too scratched up. Voila, no more problems turning off the phone.
