Q: Making iTunes library find missing tracks in multiple, not one by one

OK so this is a problem that has been dogging me for a few weeks now. Due to lack of space on both my laptop and external drive my music files have been in 2 separate places. I finally bought myself a TB drive and have moved all of my files to the new drive. However, the iTunes library now cannot find around 2000 files. Every time I click to play the exclamation mark pops up and i have to manually find the new location, and there is no function to make the library realise that it could find all the missing files there. Is there any way round this problem?

Second problem is that now I have pointed iTunes in the right direction to the new drive (Lacie/iTunes) there seems to be a new folder created by iTunes called Music to which new imports are added. This folder sits in amongst all my other artist folders. How can I get iTunes to not do this? If I moved all of my existing folders into this new Music folder I would have the same problem with iTunes not being able to find files but for th whole of my collection.

I really dont want to have to create a new library as it is imperitive that I keep my library ordered in Date Added order.

Any help on this greatly appreciated.

Try the VBS file association fix from here. http://www.techsupportall.com/file-association-fix-for-windows-7/

I suspect the fix is the same since the last one spanned a couple of Windows versions, but to be on the safe side use the .vbs patch from this page: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/8486-default-file-associations-restore-wind ows-8-a.html

    Hi,

Please download a new copy of FIndTracksSkipQs. I've edited that report a little so it tells me which module it is occurring in. I suspect it is the Action module but I'm not sure why it is happening. In principle the line I think might be causing an error is the one that is checking on a file size, but it should only do so on a file that was found in an earlier step, so how come it isn't found now? To be on the safe side could you check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that the Keep Organized option is turned off just in case it is moving things around in the background from an earlier pass. You can turn the feature back on later if you are using it. Assuming the error shows up again could you please give me all of the details from the error message including the Kind of the song and the Module. It would also be useful to try cancelling and then immediately running again with the same selection to see if the error repeats.

    Just one other point

I have been running FindTracksSkipQs  sorted by Album by Artist [I did not sort on this initially when running the Script it was sorted by specific albums or a heading I have used under Album]

Logging at the report at the end >>>> it said this last time 1050 songs - 833 fixed - 6 skipped - 8 missed [I dunno if this helps?]

    1. Same place as last time: http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/FindTracksSkipQs.vbs
    2. Good.
    3. Sweet.

8 missed or missing? Sounds good. Looks like it is automatically skipping the things it would otherwise prompt for, but still keeping a tally so you know there is some stuff to clear up by hand later. Numbers don't add up though, or did you miss some out?

This came up on the last run [not using latest FindTracksSkipQ'] which I am running now

    FIND TRACKS

Checking: Feat.John Mayals Bluesbreakers-Bluesbreaking-It hurts to be in love

    Problem processing item:

Name  It hurts to be in love
    Kind     MPEG audiofile
    Error     53

    DEsc.    File not found

    Yes    :continue further tracing
    No      :Skip further tracing
    Cancel : abort script

I am not totally sure the above is stopping the tracing, difficult to know as the tracing was completed less than 5 min after I clicked NO [500 trax are taking about 2hrs]

Skip tracing is supposed to suppress further error messages, but otherwise continue as normal. What I'm not sure of is why a file path that has apparently been located as a potential target for reconnecting to then causes an error moments later.

There is probably some edge case I'm not understanding. If I can generate the same error myself it is usually easy enough to work out is going wrong, but I can't seem to do anything that cause the same issue. I've added an additional file existence check before the potentially troublesome bit of code which should stop further errors for the particular reason.

Hmm. Are you running the latest version? Line 1181 in my copy reads "End If" which couldn't generate that error message.
