How to repeat a formula for each row?

I'm an occasional user of Numbers who's stumped by a simple issue.

I'm doing a spreadsheet that has columns for 'Number', 'Rate', and 'Total' where 'Total' = 'Number' x 'Rate'. I can do a formula for each line where e.g. the function for the 'Total' cell G4 is E4*F4.

But, how do I set up a formula so that each successive G cell in a column is the product of cells E and F on the same row?

Thanks.

The trick is :

(1) create only the useful rows
(2) use the same formula in every cells of a single column.
Asuming that every existing cells of column G contain the formula:
=E*F
when you will add a new row, the formula will be inserted automatically.

If you failed to do that, assuming that row 1 is an header one, insert
=E*F (or =E2*F2) in cell G2 then select the circular handle at the right bottom of the cell and drag it to the bottom of the column.

You will get =E*F in every cells
or
=E3*F3
=E4*F4
=E5*F5

The use of the fill down feature is clearly described in *Numbers User Guide*

I'm too busy to search for the description of the auto-insert feature 😟

Thank you very much Yvan.

That worked fine when I dragged the circle at the 'Total' cell.

I'm afraid that I could not find the information by searching through the 'Numbers Help File', and unfortunately I'm so unfamiliar with spreadsheets in general that even selecting the correct wording for my query is not always obvious to me. I've only now grasped that what I'm dragging into the adjacent cells in a column is, not the number in the first cell, but the formula that created the number.

I appreciate your help.

I have one further question though. I'm trying to sequentially number a column of cells 1,2,3,4 etc. in Numbers. In 'Pages' I know that I just number the first two as 1,2 and then drag the circle down the complete column of a table and it numbers the column of cells sequentially. But that does not work in 'Numbers'. Any idea how I might do that?

Thanks.

Thanks again Yvan.

I realised you were speaking about the 'guide', and I had not realised it was accessible when I did my initial search. I've since tried it for my second query and can't find the answer. I would not have found the first answer either because I do not fully grasp the concepts in spreadsheets yet.

While I really do appreciate your help and your pointers for sources of further information, I hope you will realise that sometimes being able to ask the correct question is critical when searching for information.

Regards.
