I'm afraid that the question doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Your original photos don't have thumnails, so they can't be restored to them. Do you mean you're missing the thumbnails in the iPhoto Window? Try Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Thank you Terence for your reply. An ailing eMac needed some prompt attention before I passed it on to my grandaughter and files were migrating to a new MacBook when the inevitable happened.
Thought at first to be a disk problem turned out to be the tube and nothing could be down to recover the remaining files. I was mostly concerned with saving 30 years of family history research on Reunion as well as the photos. Yes, Reunion was intact but only the Thumbs came through which is why I don't have the originals. Must admit I regret moving to Snow Leopard which is a big leap up and too much for my 77 year old brain. I keep telling myself it's a challenge, but it is driving me nuts.

How did you migrate the iPhoto library to the new computer?

If you still have the eMac copy the library to the Desktop of the MacBook. Rename the library in the Pictures folder to something like i"Photo Library Org". Move the library on the Desktop into the Pictures folder. Launch iPhoto and see if it will open the library correctly. If not you may have to Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the all options.

I'm not sure I'm following the directions correctly but Rebuild did tidy up my
messy iPhoto files and along the way another miracle occurred. A heap floppies (remember them?) contained pictures I wanted and amazingly my External Floppy Disk Drive opened easily on the MacBook and I've been able to add them to iPhoto and print new copies. Wonderful! I just love Apple and all the Apple people.
Thank you.
