I connect my iPod Touch (Version 1) to my PC with Win 7 and iTunes 9.0.3.15 but the device's icon does not appear in the iTunes window (below Devices). When I run diagnostic I'm told that no iPhone or iPod found. My goal is to synch. Why don't I see the device's icon?
Restart the computer. Apple forgot to mention with the latest update that it won't detect devices until you restart the computer. It's not happened before, but this version is obviously different.
I have done the uninstall (per Apple) and reinstall AND rebooted - all to no avail. I am the proud owner of a brick since the update. I can obtain podcasts via wireless but can't delete or otherwise manage my ipod data.
My MOTO Droid phone is about to become my music and podcast device.
Very odd...is it possible for you to bring your iPod to an Apple Store to have them test it there?
Also, when plugged into the computer, does the iPod charge? If it does not, then it's possible the device itself is damaged/defective/not working properly.
Try it on another computer - see if an updated version of iTunes on that one at least detects the iPod. If so, try this on your machine:
Create a new user account (System Preferences/Users) and log into that one. Open iTunes within it and connect the iPod (don't let it sync if iTunes does detect it). You can safely delete the new user and data from it once completed.
At least this way you can eliminate a simultaneous (even if unlikely) failure on the device, plus, ascertain if your computer will detect it at all.
WEll - mine suddenly decided to sync. Plgged it in to charge and it synced for me. NO clue why. I think MS has decided to share its gremlins with Apple. I do have an application called Deepak chopra that I suspect has been the source of some problems.
Glad it's working; an application shouldn't affect syncing, but, if you have the time/motivation, you can file a bug report (or just send feedback) to Apple regarding the issue. Bug report (requires free Apple Developer Connection account): bugreport.apple.com and Feedback: www.apple.com/feedback. Of course, a quick e-mail to the developer of that app as well might help prevent the issue for others (if it is related).
