Disk too slow

Hi guys,

I've just installed Logic Express 9 and when playing the demo track I get the following error message

+Disk is too slow or System Overload.+
(-10010)

I monitored the system activity and when the message appeared Logic was only using about 60% of the CPU.

I've closed all application except logic and Automap but it still seems to give the same error.

Any ideas apart from get a faster Mac...lol

I've read somewhere else on the forum that changing the IO setting from 256 down to 128 helps.

Try 1024. Big is better if you're not recording, just playing back, as you don't care about latency unless you're recording. Lower = less latency, more CPU & system resources. Higher = more latency, but kinder to your system.

But your "disk too Slow" is, err, related to your disk playback speed which is why I suspected that you're trying to play it back from the install disk.

I've never installed demo content - I'm surprised that it appeared on the desktop. Are you sure it's not an alias to the DVD? The install disk is no longer in your drive, right?

The install disk has been packed away. There was also another disk with demo songs that I didn't bother installing so I was also surprised to see the demo song appear on the desktop. It's a track by Thievery Corporation.

It's good to know what changing the IO does.

I've just ordered the Apple Pro training book as it's a fairly chunky application and I'm pretty green with this kind of program, so anything that'll help me understand setting it up for my system would be useful.

I would really love to be able to print the user manual as I find it much easier to use than I do the on screen version but at 1256 pages, maybe not!!

Hello Sean. How much free space do you have on the iMac's system hard drive?

The other disks with demo songs doesn't need installing. Insert the disc and copy the projects to your Desktop. Open them in Logic and you're ready to go.

The Apple Training Logic 101 book is very good. Also recommend Logic tutorials over at macprovideo.com. There's a 50% discount sale on all download video tutorials there using this code until Monday

Start with the Logic 101. Fantastic. The range of tutorials on Logic is second to none and goes well beyond the scope of any books. Highly recommended.
