Dock mail icon

using the rules in mail preferences, I created a couple of new mail boxes. When I receive an email the bing sounds off but there is no notice that a new letter arrived in the DOCK Mail icon. any ideas

Imac 3.06 GHz intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 4gb ram

Open Mail preferences and click on the General icon in the toolbar. Select your desired option from the "Dock unread mail" drop down menu.

Ok well I have some mailboxes that are more important than others, and would like to get only a subselection of them to display their combined new mail count in the dock. The only options in preferences are "all mailboxes", "inbox", or "none". Is there any plug-in/workaround that would let me be more specific about which mailboxes to include in the count and which to ignore?
