I'm having a similar problem today. I was able to burn an album on a CD last week, but today, I'm getting the message:
"Burn Failed: The burn to the Matshibta DVD-R UJ-835F drive failed. There was an error producing data for the burn."
I was able to burn using a burn folder in the Finder but the burn fails in iPhoto where I would like to do an iPhoto set-up burn like I've done the in past.
Anyway find a solution to this problem yet? It's come up several times on the board.
I too am able to burn with Finder but the burn fails with iphoto. In the Finder I'm able to set burn speed to a slower speed but I don't know how to set burn speed in iphoto . I think a slower speed may help. Does anyone know if there are burn speed options in iphoto?

My guess is that, unless you have an internal CD burner, it's driver isn't recognized by iPhoto. You might have luck with a program called "PatchBurn" to get iPhoto to use an external CD burner.
The Teac Dw -224E-A is a Apple supported internal Disk drive purchased from Tecknowarehouse to replace the cd -read drive that came with this computer ( a 5 flavors model) . Do you still recommend a burn patch for a internal drive.
Thank you

I would not think it necessary, but installing PatchBurn won't hurt anything -- if it's not applicable, it will tell you, and it won't install anything.
I too, am having great problems burning either CD's or DVD's in iPhoto4. I have been able to burn up to 4 images to a CD, but any album with lots of pictures (200-300) causes the system to hang in the "preparing data for burning" phase. I can also see "iPhoto Not Responding" when I look in Force Quit. Strangely, when I look at the disks afterwards in Disk Utility, they all seem to show up as "Read Only" (they are not), and "Locked". I don't know if it is an iPhoto problem, a Superdrive problem or something else. This is a new problem for me, I have successfully burned large quantities of images to CD before. Any help is welcome...
I'm having the same problem after upgrading to 10.3.9 and iphoto 4.0.3. Read below:
Until recently I was running 10.1.5 using iphoto 2 to burn folders of photos within a library. After upgrading to 10.3.9 and iphoto 4.0.3 I get a message: “The burn to the ARCHOS MiniCDRW XS8432 drive failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.”
Actually, I got another message before I installed patchburn 3.1.2. After installing patchburn 3.1.2 for 10.3.X, system profiler recognized my burner and says it is supported but the above message is displayed after the program has stopped the process.
Toast Titanium 5.2.1 burns CD’s just fine but when a CD with an iphoto library is inserted into the CD-ROM the iphoto program will not recognize it. In other words, it won’t show up in iphoto as an iphoto library or anything for that matter. Maybe there’s a way to do this in Toast or maybe I need something else to make iphoto work with my burner.
I upgraded to iphoto 5 and I'm able to burn to a cd just fine now. I suppose using iphpto 2.?? had software conflicts with 10.3.9.
Interestingly enough when I try to use the slideshow the application hangs. The screen just shows black. Any suggests ?? Sorry can't help about burning a CD to slide show as I can't get slideshow to operate.

Did anyone ever manage to burn a CD with iPhoto? I've got a PowerBook G4, system 10.4.3 and iPhoto 2 (all new from my school) I am in Chile on sabbatical with lots of photos to burn and I would hate to have to resort to (gulp) my son's PC! Would a DVD work better? I bought 2 cds, brand Master-G, one is a CD-RW and the other CD-R and the computer doesn't even appear to be able to read them. Then when I click burn, it just hangs for 1/2 hour or more. Please, please, someone help me. 🙂

I have been trying to burn pictures on IPhoto also. I purchased Memorex CDRWs and the computer just keeps spitting them back out. How do you know if it is a "supported CDRW". By the way, calling Memorex support was a joke!
I've been having problems as well, ever since installing the current OSX 10.4. If I try to burn a cd from iPhoto (version 4), I get a message saying that there is a problem with the cd, or that the computer doesn't recognise the cd. I can burn a cd just fine from the finder menu, but only if I drag and drop the files into the burn folder one at a time. I can't even say how much I dread clearing out unneeded files, as my hard drive slowly suffocates.
Please tell me there's a fix for this!

ps. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I have Virtual PC for Mac installed, with Windows XP as an operating system. I did that because I couldn't find software to support my PDA, and the software I was using wasn't compatible with OSX 10.4. That was the beginning of my problems with our current system, and I have to admit I don't like it very much.
