sorry, I forgot to put what it said. This is what it said, "iTunes could not connect to the Ipod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes"

Try connecting the iPod touch to the computer you normally sync it with.

This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 provides details about the passcode lock feature.

If you cannot remember the passcode or don't have access to the computer that the iPod is normally synced with, you can restore it from recovery mode and set it up as a new device without any data. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through restoring from recovery mode.

these are wonderful tips, but i can't use them. Whenever I try to connect my ipod (or, at this point, even turn it on) it give me the sync to itunes screen. i cannot get to enter my password or anything. and itunes won't recognize my ipod because it's "locked with a passcode". it's like double jeopardy.

thank you, i really appreciate any help!

Ok, I have this same issue [stuck on the iTunes screen] and this occurred BEFORE I had ever connected the iPad to my laptop. I set the iPad up to charge this morning and when I disconnected the charger and attempted to turn the iPad on, I get the iTunes screen. Try to restart/reset - same thing. When I do connect via USB to laptop and open iTunes I get the "cannot connect to iPad because...". Any suggestions welcome.
