Importing from a Panasonic HDC TM700

Hi, I have tried Rewrap2M4V but even though the video looks great, the audio is missing on the right channel on the completed m4v files. Do you happen to have a fix for this issue please? Thanks! Simon

Was revisiting this thread and came across your new script. I downloaded the new script as well as updated Perian (1.2.2) and Clipgrab (3.1.0.1).

The new script works as promised but now I am having audio problems when I try to play the video clips in either iPhoto 09 or iMovie 09. I am getting a high pitch shreik coming out of one of the channels (the top one, not sure whether it is right or left). Just to be clear, I did not have this problem until I updated the script.

The strange thing is that VLC works just fine. My problem is that I can't do any editing with that shriek out of one channel.

Have you or any one on this thread encountered this problem? Also, does anyone know of a way to remove the sound out of one channel in iMovie.

Yes Perian 1.2.2 (with audio out set to stereo) is installed, I did also get the load screeching noise a couple of times that I played the unwrapped clip (sounded like a digital stream being fed to the audio without decoding) but mainly it's the missing audio on one channel. It only happens with the unwrapped clips, all other audio files play back fine on both channels.

Thanks for the response Megalaser. Your description is right on. Is there a way to fix this problem? I am trying to import the video files (home movies) into iMovie to edit them. Obviously with the screeching, editing is impossible.

What setting should I use in Perian? Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby PL II, or multi-channel? Would rolling back to an earlier version of Perian work?

Would appreciate any help or recommendations.

I've had the same problem with the screeching sound using the Rewrap script. The sound occurs in Quicktime X and Pro as well as in iMovie. Playback through VLC is always clean with no screeching sound.

I've also had the same sound occur in files rewrapped with Remux. The only solution I've found so far has been to use Remux and re-encode the audio stream to AAC. This leaves the video untouched and provides usable audio. I would prefer to keep the original audio but haven't found a fix using Rewrap. Rewrap also does the great job of keeping the file creation dates original.

I'm having the same audio problem as the other users. VLC, Movist, and Quicktime all play the rewrapped file just fine. Importing the rewrapped file and playing it in iMovie '11 results in garbled audio.

Rewrapped file information:

Dimensions: 1920 x 1080

Codecs: H.264, AC3

Audio Channels: 6

Total bit rate: 23,874

I tried running the file through Handbrake and converting using the "Normal" profile and the resulting file isn't useable (video stutters). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Perian, but that didn't work. I'm also running the latest version of ClipGrab.

Does anyone have any insight on this issue?

I to am getting this screeching noise now. Hadn't noticed it but going back over old footage there it is. Even files converted by iMovie 11 or MPEG Streamclip into other formats exhibit this road drill noise over the top.

Strangely going back to the Rewrapped Mp4 files, I find sometimes they play fine, then I can double click on them again and they have the drilling noise. There seems to be no logic to it, but I've never had the problem before. I find it particularly prevalent when I open clips in Quicktime, the first will play fine, then as it opens and automatically starts to play the next in the list, this will always play with the audio problem - As will every clip from then on. Is that a clue ????

I have had that same inconsistent playback as well as the experience of Quicktime playback working fine on the first clip that is opened but all subsequent playback during the session having audio issues.

I was using Remux to fix the problem but have moved on to Media Converter. It allows you to build your own presets. There is a preset on their website to re-wrap the AVCHD video uncompressed audio. It works every time.

The downside is the date changes to the moment of re-wrap. I have tried modifying the preset to retain the original date but no luck yet.

I think it is something else that has changed - Not just Alan's script. I have rewrapped original 1080p files with the most recent version of the script and still had them play fine, imported them into iMovie, converted into AIC etc - All with no problem.

I've used video clips on projects already, that I can't seem to use now. I haven't updated any of my system software in a while other than the normal System Software Updates, and I'm not aware of any changes to Quicktime or the like. Some of the clips I have used previously, won't now import into iMovie or FCE so I'm still thinking that the actual rewrapped M4V's are possibly fine.

All in all, pretty confused, and not sure whether it is the script that is broken or the OS. I did try to go back to an older version of the script but that didn't work either. Still, at least I have kept an archive of my original mts files so should always be able to go back to them.

I have exactly the same audio issue, that has started only recently. I have successfully imported 1080/50p video from my Panasonic HDC-SD90 camera in iMovie11 after rewrapping with Alan's script on April 26. All with no audio issue what so ever. (and using an old Perian 0.5 version). I did have issues with the time code; all my clips where out of chronological sequence after shutting down and restarting iMovie. They now seem to be in order of clip lenght, although not fully consistent. But that's another story.....

I first experienced the audio issue on May 8, when trying to import new footage I shot the day before. I then reinstalled Rewrap2M4V and the latest version of ClipGrab and installed the latest Perian version. Still to no avail. When browsing the system profile -> Software -> Frameworks, I did notice that the AVFoundationCF was updated on March 31 2011. I'm not a developer, but this seems to be the framework used for audio / video playback for (most) Mac OS X applications such as QuickTime, Quick Preview and iMovie11. ('he AV Foundation framework provides an Objective-C interface for managing and playing audio-visual media in your Mac OS X application.') I do suspect a version conflict between some components, but it seems the latest system file updates date from April 17 and they seem unrelated to my layman's eye. Also these dates do not match the time the audio issue has started. Maybe Alan Somers can shed some light on this subject?

I really hope for a quick solution, because converting to H.264 25fps is no option for me. I really mis the smooth playback when doing this, especially when using slow motion.
